We are John and Jennifer Miller and we have two amazing kids, Graham (10) and Genevieve (8). We are originally from Iowa / Minnesota and we relocated to Texas in the Spring of 2007. It has been a dream of ours to own a little piece of land and we finally made the dream come true in May, 2011 when we purchased 17 acres in Leonard, Texas. Other than a small house (The Shack) and a shed, it was a blank canvas. Over the months of June and July, 2011 we added shelters and cross fencing in preparation for our Starter Herd. Prior to the purchase we spent a lot of time researching and learning about Boer Goats in preparation.
We purchased our Starter Doe Herd from IIID Boer Goats (Greg and Charlan Darbro). We can't thank Charlan enough for all her guidance and advice. Our starter herd consists of 25 and consists of 14 Fullbloods, 2 Purebred, 4 American Percentage and 5 unregistered.
We purchased our Herd Sire, Lil Seed, on June 25, 2011 from Jack and Anita Mauldin of Ector, Texas. He is the son of War Dancer and Baraccuda. Thank you Jack and Anita! Lil Seed has given us some amazing kids this Spring (2012).
Our family mission is to enjoy the country air, open space, and give the kids the opportunity to enjoy the responsiblity of raising animals. In addition, we hope to have them experience showing at the County Fair and local goat shows.
Our mission as it relates to our Boer Goats is to focus on producing quality goats that thrive on a forage based diet without massive grain supplementation. We will focus on the following:
1. Does that carry, deliver and raise their kids without extensive intervention from us.
2. Healthy, pasture raised goats that don't need heavy grain supplemenation to keep them in "Quality" condition.
3. Breed an animal that exemplifies the breed standards.
